O God of mercy, hear us now

Author: Hymnal Compiler

O God of mercy, hear us now
As at Thy throne we humbly bow;
In earnest prayer to Thee we plead
For those in suffering and in need.

Constrain us by Thy saving love
To serve Thee, Lord in heaven above,
In those Thy brethren here below
Who dwell in homes of want and woe.

Where thirst and hunger bring distress,
Where strangers feel their loneliness,
Where prisoned men in sorrow lie,
Where suffering sick in anguish cry:

Grant us the hearts that, undismayed,
In every need will render aid;
And bid us haste, when called by Thee,
In these Thy poor Thyself to see.

Send Thou the help we cannot give:
Bid dying souls arise and live;
To palsied will, to withered heart,
With quickening power Thy strength impart.

O God of mercy, be Thou blest,
Thy name be hallowed and confessed,
That, through our love, on every shore
Thy praise may echo ever more.
