How the recordings are done:

What are these 'Piano & Instrumental' recordings

The 'Piano & Instrumental' recordings are
based on midi files produced by the 'Band in a box' program.

You will notice on the details for many of the hymns a BIAB  link. This will download the actual 'Band in a box' file that is used by that program. These files contain the melody and the chords for that song/hymn. It is that file that is used as the basis for the 'Piano & Instrumental' recordings to produce both the 'chord sheet' and the 'midi file' that show on the 'Piano & Instrumental' section.

You can find more about 'Band in a box' files by clicking here.

The 'Chord Sheet'
These days many musicians prefer to play from a 'melody and chords' rather than a full notation. This makes it easier for them to improvise and 'do their own thing'.

The 'Chord Sheet' are produced from the 'Band in a box' files by that program. The printing format leaves a bit to be desired, but it does show the important details, as actually used by the program.

Only one verse is shown, often with an extra bar (or two for 3/4 time) at the end which shows the small break between the verses.

The 'Midi File'
These midi files are again produced directly from 'Band in a box'. It converts the chords into actual notes depending on the selected music style. Not all styles or instruments can be converted to a midi file.

I have have done some basic editing of these files to make the 'loudness' of each instrument at same level, but then adjusted the individual track levels to meet my requirements to make the MP3 recording.

These midi files are not really suitable for producing a score for someone to play from, but are intended to be used in a keyboard or a computer program.

You can find out more on how you can play these midi files by clicking here.

The 'MP3' recordings
Using the midi files available on the system, I have feed them into the Garritan Band and Orchestral programs (see: http://www.garritan.com ). If you wish to adjust the tempo, pitch, number of verses etc, you can do this by following the instructions on this site. (Click here.)

(Note: This Piano & Instrumental style was previously called 'Band Midi').
