How beauteous are their feet

Author: Isaac Watts

How beauteous are their feet
Who stand on Zion's hill!
Who bring salvation on their tongues,
And words of peace reveal!

How charming is their voice!
How sweet the tidings are!
"Zion, behold thy Savior King;
He reigns and triumphs here."

How happy are our ears
That hear this joyful sound,
Which kings and prophets waited for,
And sought, but never found!

How blessèd are our eyes
That see this heav'nly light
Prophets and kings desired it long,
But died without the sight.

The watchmen join their voice,
And tuneful notes employ;
Jerusalem breaks forth in songs,
And deserts learn the joy.

The Lord makes bare His arm
Through all the earth abroad;
Let every nation now behold
Their Savior and their God!

Lord God, the Spirit blest

Author: James Montgomery (1771-1854)

Lord God, the Spirit blest,
in this accepted hour,
as on the day of Pentecost,
descend in all your power;
we meet with one accord
in this your holy place,
and wait the promise of our Lord,
the Spirit of all grace.

Like mighty rushing wind
upon the waves beneath,
move with one impulse every mind,
one soul, one feeling breathe:
the young, the old inspire
with wisdom from above;
and give us hearts and tongues of fire
to pray, and praise, and love.

Spirit of light! explore,
and chase our gloom away,
with lustre shining more and more
towards the perfect day:
Spirit of truth! alone
in life and death our guide;
come, Spirit of adoption! now
may we be sanctified.
